Family Therapy  Gold Coast

Children grow. Relationships evolve. Life changes.
What worked five years ago may no longer work today.

Whether you're navigating parenting challenges, supporting a struggling teenager, adjusting to separation, blending families or simply feeling like home has become harder than it used to be, family therapy provides a space to slow down, reconnect and move forward together.

FAMIlies aren't static.

You might be finding yourselves:
  • Walking on eggshells around one another.
  • Unsure how to support a child or teenager who's struggling.
  • Feeling disconnected as a family.
  • Caught in repeated conflict at home.
  • Navigating separation or changes in family structure.
  • Adjusting to ADHD, autism or another diagnosis.
  • Managing grief, illness or a significant life transition.
  • Feeling like everyone is trying their best, but something still isn't working.

You don't have to navigate those seasons alone.

Family life isn't always straightforward.

One of the things that makes family therapy different is that we don't look at people in isolation.

When one person is struggling, the whole family often feels it.
That doesn't mean anyone is to blame.
It simply recognises that families are made up of relationships, and relationships influence one another in powerful ways.

Sometimes small shifts in understanding, communication or family dynamics can create meaningful change for everyone.

Our role is to help your family better understand what's happening beneath the surface, strengthen connection and create new, practical ways of supporting one another.

Looking at the bigger picture

Our approach is grounded in family systems thinking, attachment theory and trauma-informed practice.

Rather than focusing on one individual, we take the time to understand your family's unique strengths, challenges and the patterns that have developed over time.

Depending on your family's needs, sessions may involve parents, children, siblings or the family together. There isn't one "right" way to do family therapy. We tailor the process to the people sitting in the room.

We commonly support families experiencing...

Every family's story is different, so the first session is about getting to know yours.

We'll explore what has brought you to therapy, what's already working, where things have become difficult and what each person hopes will be different.

From there, we'll develop a plan that reflects your family's goals and the unique relationships within it.

FAQs About Family Therapy

CLOSE

Every family is different, so there isn't one right way to do family therapy.
Depending on your family's needs, sessions may involve parents or caregivers, children, teenagers, siblings or the whole family together. Sometimes we'll begin by meeting with parents before inviting other family members into the process.

We'll work with you to decide what approach is likely to be the most helpful for your family.

Is family therapy just for families in crisis?

CLOSE

Not at all.

Many families seek support before things reach breaking point. You don't have to wait until relationships feel irreparable to benefit from therapy.
Family therapy can be helpful during periods of transition, increasing conflict, parenting challenges or whenever you're finding it difficult to navigate things on your own.

What if my teenager doesn't want to come?

CLOSE

Common! Many young people feel unsure about therapy at first, particularly if they worry they'll be blamed or forced to talk.

We work hard to create an environment where everyone feels respected and heard. If your teenager is reluctant, we can discuss the best way to introduce therapy and whether it makes sense to begin by meeting with parents first. One person can also change a whole family dynamic alone so a family approach even without every member presence can still be hugely beneficial.

Can family therapy help if my child has ADHD or autism?

CLOSE

Absolutely. Many families we work with are navigating ADHD, autism or other forms of neurodivergence.

Rather than focusing only on the diagnosis, we help families understand how neurodivergence influences communication, emotional regulation, routines and relationships at home. Together, we'll develop practical strategies that support the whole family while recognising each person's individual needs.

How many sessions will we need?

CLOSE

Every family's circumstances are different.
Some families come for support around a specific issue or life transition, while others choose to attend over a longer period as they work through more complex family dynamics.

After your first appointment, we'll discuss your goals and recommend a plan that feels appropriate for your family's needs.

Do you offer online family therapy?

CLOSE

Yes. We offer both in-person appointments from our Bundall clinic and secure online family therapy for families across Australia.

Online sessions can be particularly helpful for busy families, separated parents or situations where family members are joining from different locations.
